Even if version 1.65-6 in Debian provides .desktop file, it does not include
your adjustments to the .desktop file itself, so you should prepare a merge
instead. Since oolite has quilt support and .desktop file is provided upstream,
you should use available patch system to manage your adjustments to avoid to
overlook them in the future. Also, try to contact upstream developer to provide
a freedesktop-compliant .desktop file in the next release:
$ desktop-file-validate /usr/share/applications/oolite.desktop
/usr/share/applications/oolite.desktop: warning: key "Encoding" in group
