I have a black screen during boot. My machine is a Dell Precision M6300 with a native resolution of 1920x1200. I changed my configuration to the settings suggested but without results. My /etc/usplash.conf is set at 1024x768. My /boot/grub/menu.lst has kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=5ca863f6-d30f-4023-b19c-94f8930094a9 ro quiet splash locale=it_IT vga=791 And I've executed $ sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`.
