Found the following two entries had been added to /etc/apt/sources.list following automatic updates. deb [trusted=yes] http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian experimental main deb [trusted=yes] http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian sid main
Commented them out and performed apt update. Then purged the following packages: apt purge gnome-settings-daemon gdm3 gnome-control-center gnome-initial-setup gnome-power-manager gnome-shell uatter ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-session This removed these packages, then reinstalled all pre-existing packages.
