Mario,

I'm running an Ubuntu-only system. I'm not a programmer, just a user. I
haven't figured out how to update my BIOS yet under Ubuntu, so for now
I've abandoned the install attempt on my new 300Gb HD. I was attempting
to install mythbuntu 7.10 but couldn't get the system to boot after the
install. After 8 hours of partition/install attempts, the HD controller
on my mobo quit on me (I think) and I couldn't do anything. I turned the
system off overnight, plugged in the old 40Gb hard drive and was
relieved to find that the system would boot. I haven't had time to do
anything else to this system.

I'll have to see if I can recover the /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/partman files from the 300Gb HD (it's not plugged into the
mobo). I do not recall having selected a remote listed as "Other"; I
believe I selected "Hauppage TV card" as the remote.

BTW, you make great posts to the Ubuntu forums. Thank you for all your
efforts.
