Also this:
- Bug #68148, first reported on 2006-10-25 by professordes, 'IBM X40 Thinkpad
fails to suspend/hibernate (edgy with latest updates)'

By the way, I'm totally new to Linux/Ubuntu and have no idea whatsoever
how to do weird command line stuff. So if there's any other way to
diagnose and fix this, with a GUI for ACPI settings for example, I may
be able to stay with Ubuntu (7.10, gutsy, Kernel Linux
2.6.22-14-generic, GNOME 2.20.0)

My laptop is a Novatech NNB-573 with:
 Intel Celeron Mobile M530 1.7GHz,
 Intel GMA X3100 Graphics
Intel 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) SATA IDE Controller, Mobile
PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub, Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics
Controller
