Public bug reported: First time KiCad install on an Ubuntu 16.04LTS Cinnamon machine. NO other KiCad versions have been installed on this machine. First time user, long time CAD experience.
Libraries seem to be called out wrong by the software. There are none of the standard descrete modules (though 7400's are there). The software tells me it's looking for, as an example: 'Capacitors' but the modules installed during install are all singular, example, 'Capacitor'. All the footprints in PCB are missing. Again, the software shows it's looking for modules that don't exist. So in KiCads Ubuntu version nearly all the libraries are empty since the software is pointing to modules that don't exist. And no way to easily change the all the module names or the software. This is true for Eeschema & PCBnew. The software seems to be pointing to V4 modules instead of V5 modules. 1) Ubuntu 16.04LTS 2) kicad: Installed: 5.0.1-stable-201810221500+33cea8e~68~ubuntu16.04.1 Candidate: 5.0.1-stable-201810221500+33cea8e~68~ubuntu16.04.1 Version table: *** 5.0.1-stable-201810221500+33cea8e~68~ubuntu16.04.1 500 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/js-reynaud/kicad-5/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4.0.7+e2-6376~58~ubuntu16.04.1 500 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/js-reynaud/kicad-4/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 4.0.2+dfsg1-4 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 3) I expected to be able to find footprints suitable for layout in PCB. 4) There are no footprints available for work within Eeschema or PCBnew. And I can't find any simple way to cause the KiCad software to look for the modules that are installed. ** Affects: kicad (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1804698 Title: Footprint library pointer wrong in V5.0.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1804698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
