error messages in my Xorg log file. After a boot, X comes up and I can log in via kdm or gdm [1]. However, after typing the password the screen goes black. The desktops are being loaded (true for both KDE and GNOME as I hear the login sound and mail notification sounds) but the screen is completely black and stays black. Hence, I am forced to using the vesa drivers that give me a correct resolution (1280x800). My display controller is a GM 965 (Santa Rosa platform). [1] Here already I noticed that the the login manager window is not in the center but shifted to the left.
