The following are the solutions that I have already tried. 1. Installing the Nvidia drivers didn't solve the problem, the laptop was heating up & shutting down, so I switched back to the original xserver nouveau drivers by running sudo apt-purge nvidia*
2. I also ran lmsensor commands which added a few lines to etc/modules (I am not sure what those lines where as I am unable to use the laptop for more than 5-10minutes at a time, so I am typing this from another computer).
