Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I've since installed Mint. Do you know if there is a way to install the proposed Ubuntu kernel in Mint? (This is my main machine, and I'm not keen to partition the disk as a test, or wipe the current system. I would try booting off a flash drive, but there is no easy way that I know of to change or update the kernel in the image.)
