OK, I desoldered the flash and dumped the firmware. The chip is indeed a remarked TPS65983 (possibly TPS65983B, it's not entirely clear) and out of the 1 MiB flash capacity, slightly less than 70 KiB is used by the firmware. Which is still not very small but could be manageable. I've attached the firmware, have fun.
