I am on a MacBookPro v3 and I am experiencing this issue as well. It looks like everything is off and nothing is responsive except that the fans are running and my optical mouse is still lit.
This is a very recent issue, as everything was shutting down fine until a week ago. I do not know how to find out more information about this since I can only dmesg while my keyboard works.
