This last comment seems important to me. Are you running xgl + nvidia + compiz? If so then the issue must be XGL related, being the only common denominator. I'm running XGL + ati (fglrz) + compiz. Has anyone running AIGLX + ati (fglrx 8.42) + compiz seen this issue? If not I'm considering installing the ATI driver from the binary source to run with AIGLX... I'll let you know tommorow if it works.
