Same problem here with a Samsung laptop, with the 18.04.1 Kubuntu image.
A good fix should offer the choice between efi and non efi install like in 
16.04, but with a text that is more clear.
Just cary on with the install in efi mode that only leads to install failure is 
no fix, it will just turn people away
