I have managed to solve it for me. Try this and let me know how you fare. Completely uninstall old version that was manually installed. Open terminal enter:
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list and enter password Then enter wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt- key add - && sudo apt-get update When finished, Open Synaptic Package Manager Click Reload (or click edit, reload package information) and wait for details to download Search Package Manager for "Google" Select "googleearth" and "googleearth-data" Click "apply" Google Earth should then install putting an icon in "Applications, Internet" Enjoy!
