Public bug reported:

When a new removable medium is inserted, Ubuntu creates a corresponding folder
in /media. Later, if the user removes the medium, that folder is deleted.
However, if the user removes the medium when Ubuntu is down (e.g., when the PC
is off), the folder remains. It can only be removed manually using sudo command.

Can we remove empty folders in /media (not listed in /etc/fstab and
/etc/mtab, of course) while starting up?

** Affects: ubuntu
