Had a very similar problem on a fresh Gutsy ( 2.6.22-14-generic ) install. DVD burning did not work at all (brasero, gnomebaker) Finally updated firmware on my GSA-4167B to Dangerous Brothers DL13. Works like a charm. I suggest you check for new firmwares.
