Public bug reported:

A livepatch went out for 18.04, but I didn't get a notification.

Looking at "ps aux":

will      2121  0.0  0.0      0     0 tty7     Z+   May22   0:00
[livepatch-notif] <defunct>
will     16009  0.0  0.0      0     0 tty7     Z+   May24   0:00
[livepatch-notif] <defunct>

(I havent rebooted this box in a while, perhaps that's it)

Nothing in /var/crash

$ sudo cat /var/snap/canonical-livepatch/current/status
[sudo] password for will:
applied 2

-/-

$ sudo touch /var/snap/canonical-livepatch/current/status
$ sudo cat /var/snap/canonical-livepatch/current/status
applied 2

-/-

Doing this:

* Run in the CLI: dbus-monitor "interface='org.freedesktop.Notifications'"  |
grep --line-buffered  "member=Notify\|string"
* Run in another terminal: sudo touch
/var/snap/canonical-livepatch/current/status

Does not generate any output.

** Affects: update-notifier (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
