I don't know which kernel version I did use in Xenial (initially I used the normal one, the kernel installed by default, but then I installed UKUU so couldn't remember, but I never had this problem with previous versions of Kubuntu nor any other flavor of Ubuntu nor in any Linux distro, for the case.
