If you disable your Nvidia NIC (forcedeth), the system will likely work
correctly with another PCI NIC installed (tested with Tyan 2915,
Linux-2.6.20.x).  We tested this extensively on another distribution but
with the exact same issues you were seeing under load.  After 2-3 hours
using NFS (40-100 MB/s), the system would start to hang logins via
ssh/serial console and the freeze up hard and completely.  We disabled
the Nvidia NICs and started using Intel e1000 driver with dual/quad
PCI-e network cards.  After which, the system does not freeze.  More
later after we test for multiple days to confirm.
