My 2 cents:

I also agree that the current icon looks a bit "old" (mainly the color
of computer case and screen look quite old somehow). But switching to an
orange icon doesn't seem like a good solution to me: if all apps do
that, the taskbar is full of orange icons - that would make it quite
difficult to distinguish the different apps :-) . Also IMHO it's not
necessary that the screen on the icon looks like the Ubuntu desktop -
after all, tsclient is meant for accessing _other_ systems as well.

So I think it would be nice to polish the current tsclient icon... IMHO
the globe looks quite nice; but maybe the computer could be replaced by
something from the Tango icon set or by a blue-colored version of the
computer from the Human theme?
