Closing that report as grub was not able ( by design) to do the requested job.
@idiens Please report your own issue as its way more recent and completely unrelated to this one. ** Description changed: I have a raid 1 array (disk a) and another disk that doesn't have raid enabled (disk b). I'm not that savvy in terms of understanding file systems and the nomenclature. Nonethless, i decided to wipe my hard drive and install 12.04 64bit. After half way through the installation an error indicated that grub has failed to install and that it was a fatal error. I had 11.10 64bit installed on disk b and it wouldn't boot it couldn't find the partition (i filed a previous question). So i've decided to just wipe the disk and install 12.04 on disk b. I do have windows 7 installed on disk A. I hypothesize that that maybe the issue; but i'm not sure how to fix the problem. + ************************* + The error was: + grub-installer: /usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: embedding is not possible, but this is required for cross-disk install. + + grub-installer: error: Running 'grub-install --no-floppy --force + "/dev/mapper/isw_eafhajhfeb_Volume0p2"' failed. + + ************************* + + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: ubiquity 2.10.16 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-23.36-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.315 Date: Sat Apr 28 12:31:43 2012 InstallCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- maybe-ubiquity LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425) ProcEnviron: - LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 - TERM=linux - PATH=(custom, no user) - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 + TERM=linux + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SourcePackage: grub-installer UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990642 Title: Installing 12.04 caused grub-installer to fail, "Fatal error unable to install grub" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/990642/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
