If you cannot boot the live cd (even when trying multiple times), I have no idea how to solve the problem. Maybe, it could be possible to make a copy of the live CD with the file intel-rng.ko removed from it? My Omnibook 6100 was so grateful to boot every 4th times or so. I upgraded from Ubuntu 6.06 via the 'update' utility, not via installing from the CD.
