I have just had the similar experience as phirestalker: sound playback
and recording with my USB headset were broken after an upgrade to gutsy,
but removing my ~/.asound* files (and then running "asoundconf set-
default-card Intel") fixed it.  I have a Dell Inspiron 630m with Intel
HDA audio, and a Logitech USB headset.
