After you install smbclient, can you please just run the "smbtree"
command:
Here it lists my NAS and its shares:
$ smbtree
LOWTECH
\\NAS
\\NAS\photo System default shared folder
\\NAS\IPC$ IPC Service ()
(...)
This is my smb.conf where smbtree was run (all defaults):
