The error in your log is: Setting up shim-signed (1.34.5+13-0ubuntu2) ... Installing for x86_64-efi platform. show_order(): Illegal seek Skipping unreadable variable "Boot0000": Illegal seek Skipping unreadable variable "Boot0001": Illegal seek Skipping unreadable variable "Boot0003": Illegal seek Skipping unreadable variable "Boot000B": Illegal seek Skipping unreadable variable "Boot000C": Illegal seek Could not add entry to BootOrder: Illegal seek grub-install: error: efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: No such device or address. ESC[1mdpkg:ESC[0m error processing package shim-signed (--configure): installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
When you say "sophos running [...] blocking the update", do you mean that you have some sort of anti-malware defense installed which is preventing shim from accessing the boot config? If so, that seems to me like not a bug in shim. ** Changed in: shim-signed (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766385 Title: package shim-signed 1.34.5+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1766385/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
