I noticed the same problem in Ubuntu MATE 18.04 beta 1, updated to the current state as of 2018-03-30. The FF desktop icon is enormous. The huge icon also appears in the combo box of "Preferred Applications" for setting the default browser. On my regular 16.04 installation it looks fine, though.
