Public bug reported: Installed indicator-multiload and ran into two problems. First it didn't display correctly - colors were wrong and charts were missing. Second after logging off and logging in again I was thrown back to the login screen shortly after my desktop appeared. Removing indicator-multiload allowed me to login normally.
