Public bug reported: I have been experiencing a hang (typically triggered when Google Chrome is open, but then Google Chrome is always open on my laptops).
It makes the system entirely unresponsive to mouse or keyboard (including CTRL+ALT+F1) for several minutes, at which point it suddenly catches up with a whole load of input events and returns to full responsiveness. Happens once or twice a day, and happens very frequently when I return to a machine which has been idle for a while. I have experienced this with both Lubuntu Artful 17.10 (the Thinkpad X230 machine I am reporting from), but also two other machines a Toshiba Portege R600 and a Dell N5110 both running Bionic. It may be related to accessing the filesystem (e.g. launching a Save file dialog from Chrome), but can equally be triggered by e.g. launching a Terminal, which presumably causes the /etc/profile file to be read. At this stage I can't even establish what is going on. Can anyone suggest diagnostic steps?
