I have a similar crash running Gutsy on a Thinkpad T60 with the Madwifi driver.
network-manager 0.6.5-0ubuntu16
wpasupplicant 0.6.0+0.5.8-0ubuntu1
~$ modinfo ath_pci
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/net/ath_pci.ko
license: Dual BSD/GPL
version: svn r2732

The attached log, produced by "sudo NetworkManager --no-daemon 2>&1"
shows a crash that happened when I plugged in ethernet while the
wireless interface was active.

When this crash happens, network-manager CPU utilization hits 100% and
can only be stopped with "kill -9".

Will try catching it with GDB to get more usefull output.
