Public bug reported: `vlc` freezes about 50% of time when entering the timeline/playback progress bar with the mouse cursor. The freeze takes between 5 seconds and 2 minutes and makes `gnome-shell` crash in about 50% of cases. There's no output on console indicating the cause for the freeze.
Steps to reproduce: 1. download the VLC demo file http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/MPEG-4/video2.mp4 to `/var/tmp/` and open it 2. enter the timeline until the time progress popup is shown and leave it repeatedly until a freeze occurs ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: vlc 2.2.6-6 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-041500-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Feb 13 15:57:48 2018 JournalErrors: Error: command ['journalctl', '-b', '--priority=warning', '--lines=1000'] failed with exit code 1: Hint: You are currently not seeing messages from other users and the system.
