Same happens to me.
I'm using http proxy without authentification.
It seems as if it is related to yahoo and msn accounts, as it only segfaults if 
one of these changes to online.
But when backtracking the problem, the backtrace shows almost everything from 
crash in xmpp, yahoo, msn, logging and some code, where gdb complains that this 
line in the source file does not exist(!).

I'm not sure wether this is ubuntu related or more pidgin related, libc
is always concerned.
