That's not the issue. the 386 kernel is the default, and is what I've been running. The desire for a 686 non-SMP kernel is to determine if the problem is with the 686 optimizations or the SMP code. WHat I really want is for someone with knowledge of the kernel internals to look at Paul's patches and see if they're appropriate to apply to the current 686smp kernel source. I'm not a C programmer, and I haven't even configured and compiled a kernel since it went modular, so I don't trust my own opinion on the subject...
