Stefan, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. On my Athlon Classic, I added the ide-generic and ide-disk modules to the /etc /initramfs-tools/modules. (I couldn't find an ide-core module) I then ran the command indicated in your message. That fixed my kernel. I still wonder if the kernel patch indicated in Bug 133666 would have prevented the need for these overrides.
