Kamppeter, I'm not 100% sure how I managed to achieve this but you could
try the following:

1)Disable one of the screens from displayconfig-gtk (a.k.a screens and graphics)
2) Go to terminal and do sudo gnome-display-properties
3)Choose the desired resolution

Now when you boot up with the projector connected they should run on the
same resolution (If they both support the resolution).

As I said nothing in this guide is sure:) All I know is that I managed
to make my external monitor and laptop to run on 1024x768
