I think this deserves a greater importance than "wishlist". A value of 18 for hdparm -S translates to 90 seconds, and this is insane, because even let to idle the system will try write to the disks every 2..4 minutes. That means that the disk idles for 90 seconds and spins down and after another 90 seconds the system wants to write on it and it spins it up again. So, even with an idle system the hard disk will be spinned up 90 seconds and spinned down the next 90. Not only this is dangerous, but it's useless from a power management point of view.
