I got some problems with the stactic version, like a crash when i want to export my UV unwrap to a image. So, it's not a perfect solution. Yafray render crash too.
Another way to get blender working in ubuntu 7.10 is downgrading libgl1 -mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx to 6.5.1 like said here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=417287.
