The problem is that the gnumeric 1.7.11-1ubuntu3 does not seem to have the 
import/output filters installed. It neither reads nor exports xls for example. 
It WILL read a gnumeric file, but says "unsupported file type" for .xls. And 
won't offer to save anything much other than CSV, gnumeric or pdf.

Looks like someone didn't do the build properly.

I'm running Gutsy, but 2.6.22-13 kernel as -14 gets a kernel panic on
startup. Haven't figured how to properly report that yet, and too many
other jobs to do, so will stick with Feisty on my production machines.
