Yes the problem still exists BUT:

When i boot the laptop on battery, gnome power management dimming works,
which means i get only half the brightness when i log into gnome. When i
plug in the cord, nothing changes. SO dimming back to full does not
work. The gnome brightness setting applet does *not* work tho.

When i boot the laptop on AC power, gnome power management dimming does
NOT work, when i unplug the cord, i see gnome trying to set the dimming
but nothing happens, applet doesnt work either.

I can set the brightness by hand tho, when i do "echo 3 >
"/sys/class/backlight/sony/brightness"

This is all with gutsy -generic kernel.

If you need further information, i am more than willing to help.
