I totally agree, and quite surprised that not more people complain about this (and want this changed). Alone in our company we wasted quite some time by getting unwanted openjdk-9 debs installed: * in most cases the problem of getting openjdk-9 installed when there's *no* (older) openjdk yet installed (we experienced this for ex with zookeeper and/or mesos debs) * but even in some cases with pre-installed openjdk-8, some deb packages were not happy with the installed openjdk-8(-jre). We just have this case with the jmx_prometheus_httpserver-*.deb pkg (in which case it must also be a bad dependency of that deb package)
