I have same bug with ATI X800GTO: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155391 (sorry, can't find this case in that moment).
"vga=..." option is not help. Then kernel panic leds Caps Lock and Scroll Lock are flashing. In different posts was described various combination of blinking.
