I see Luke Yelavich re-assigned it. I wasn't sure if the issue was with some setting or implementation of ubuntustudio-desktop.
Note that: 1) I did NOT try just the usplash package. 2) I AM currently using almost every asset of ubuntu studio except the usplash.
