Same problem here. This bug makes Firefox completely unusable for me in Gutsy.
I upgraded from 7.04 to 7.10 and Firefox cannot display web pages anymore. It crashes on startup while trying to display file:///usr/share /ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html. However, it will run normally until it encounters certain fonts, e.g.: --------------------- $ echo '<body><p>Hello!</p></body>' > index.html $ firefox index.html --------------------- This will allow Firefox to start up normally. Of course, as soon as I try to view a real web page, it crashes: --------------------- $ firefox http://slashdot.org/ ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) (gecko:14580): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Arial Bold 9.75' (gecko:14580): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Trebuchet MS Italic 9.7998046875' --------------------- It managed to display slashdot's page fairly well before crashing.
