Public bug reported: No audio could be heard on my Asus Z84FM laptop immediately following my upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy.
Issue was resolved by following early steps in the Debugging Sound Problems page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems that has been recommended for similar problems.
