Looking at Menu -> Languages. There is only "German [Germany]" (de_DE). There is no option, which only says "German" (de).
I agree with you using only "de" instead of "de_DE" is a better option. Or adding a fallback mode. If "de_DE" has no translation, then use "de" and at last "en". Probably sticking to de_DE causes also the problems for control center, software boutique etc. showing in English. I tried "sudo locale-gen de.UTF-8", but it says: Error: 'de.UTF-8' is not a supported language or locale -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1689512 Title: Ubuntu MATE Welcome screen in English not German To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-mate-welcome/+bug/1689512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
