You may be onto something there. I have not had any crashes in Gutsy since I initiated the restricted drivers. Interestingly enough, I was using restricted drivers with 7.04, and that was still giving me freeze issues. It wasn't until I made changes suggested by |V|isterX in the Ubuntu forums that I was able to stabilize my system. I am sure you have looked there already, but that string can be found by searching "Feisty Fawn Freezes." It appears as though some of these issues have been worked on in Ubuntu latest 7.10.
