Users switching from Unity to GNOME... or from almost any other environment to GNOME... are going to find the current panel arrangement inconvenient. I am not used to moving the mouse all the way to the far edge of the other monitor when I want to log out, or suspend, or adjust volume... and I shouldn't have to.
