I went to the site and was able to get into the chat window. (I think they might have rearranged their navigation a little bit.)
I was not able to reproduce any of the issues reported. That is I had no problems at all with steps 7-10. I'm running ubuntu 7.04 (feisty fawn) with the exception of having sun- java6-plugin 6-03-0ubuntu2 (from ubuntu 7.10 - gutsy gibbon) installed.
