@zyga Excellent news, thank you. I'm sure when the initial directory choice was made the snap team was under pressure to meet product deadlines (Touch/phone/cloud) so deferring a better solution until later probably made sense then; an argument can be made for a mandatory $HOME/snap directory being acceptable under an embedded/tablet/phone environment where the user isn't generally intended to have direct access to their home directory, but such arguments are much less defensible on servers and desktops. Unfortunately that postponement led to end users having snap packages using $HOME/snap installed on their systems, making the problem henceforth even more complicated to address, and it was starting to look like the snap team was going to wash their hands of this altogether and leave us with this very un-Unix-like immutable intrusion into /home, the filesystem hierarchy traditionally delegated to management by users.
