By the way, should I report a new bug for the different machine?

Just to write this down while I have it fresh in my mind, I have the
tested the card reader with a

* Thinkpad X220 with a fairly fast SSD where copying always seems to work just
fine on all three usb ports (where one is "blue" USB 3)
* Ideacentre A740 with a slow SSHD where copying sometimes fails, especially
with large video files, and all ports seem to be USB 3
* HP Spectre x360 with a fast SSD where copying always fails even with "small"
(20M) files, as long as I copy several files at once (copying one, then
waiting, then copying another seems to work fairly well) – haven't tried videos
yet.

I can workaround the problem by using a USB 2 cable instead of the
Lexar-supplied USB 3 cable.

I've tried upgrading the Spectre to the HWE kernel (4.8.0-39-generic),
which made no difference.

I've tried putting usbcore.autosuspend=-1
usbcore.autosuspend_delay_ms=-1 in grub, which made no difference.
