Since finding the root cause is difficult, it will be great if you can contribute. Please read up if you want to help. Len Brown uses the bugzilla kernel bug to solve booting with the max cstate parameter. There are workarounds and I posted some kernels in my dropbox that can be used for testing. auto demotion enablement seems to be a vast improvement, but there seems to be more issues related to audio and video.
